High-speed scanning for rapid change response
The essence of a successful Quality Control System (QCS) is knowing exactly what is happening in the process at any given moment. To minimize waste and achieve the highest possible efficiency, the system must manage process upsets and transitions quickly and precisely.
Valmet IQ Scanners intelligently adapt to the process situation as it unfolds. During machine startups, production ramp-ups, web break recovery, or grade changes, scanner speeds are optimized to meet the exact MD and CD control needs of the moment.
Edge-to-edge scanning, controlled by high-precision sheet edge detectors, ensures consistent total sheet profile control across the entire sheet width.
By varying scanning speeds, accelerating and decelerating near the sheet edges, and increasing edge dwell time, the system significantly reduces MD variations compared with conventional single-speed scanning. As a result, CD profiles are corrected more rapidly, while MD paper quality is stabilized as quickly as possible, helping mills maintain consistent product quality and maximize process performance.
Future-proof scanners for stable quality throughout the lifecycle
In addition to the full-sized Valmet IQ Scanner, Valmet offers the Valmet IQ Single-Sided Scanner, a single-sensor scanning solution designed for specific applications. It is particularly suitable for measurements such as moisture after the size press and coat-weight measurement at the coater. Both IQ Scanners and IQ Single-Sided Scanners can be implemented as standalone solutions or fully integrated into a comprehensive quality management system.
For fixed-point measurements that do not require scanning movement, the Valmet IQ Fixed Point C-frame provides an ideal solution. The system is well suited for moisture, color, and fiber measurements, particularly in tissue production applications.
For converting applications, where operating conditions are less demanding, the compact Valmet IQ Converting Scanner is the most suitable choice. It is designed for specialized measurements such as moisture measurement on corrugated board machines and silicone or adhesive measurement on self-adhesive laminating lines.
