Inauguration of Nhon Trach 3 & 4 power plants

On December 14, 2025, at Ong Keo Industrial Park, Dai Phuoc Commune, Dong Nai Province, the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), in collaboration with PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power), solemnly held the inauguration ceremony and unveiled the commemorative plaque for the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants. This marks an important milestone, affirming Vietnam’s pioneering progress in using imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, while realizing the national commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

A key project in the energy transition

Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 are the first projects in Petrovietnam’s LNG-to-Power chain (PV GAS – PV Power), with a total investment of about USD 1.4 billion. This modern LNG power center model contributes to enhancing electricity supply capacity and ensuring national energy security amid rising electricity demand and strong energy transition trends.

With a total designed capacity of 1,624 MW, the plants are expected to supply more than 9 billion kWh annually once operating stably. This electricity source will significantly supplement the national grid, especially in the southern region where demand is consistently high. In addition, Nhon Trach 3 & 4 will serve as flexible power sources, supporting dispatching and balancing the system as the share of renewable energy grows.

Advanced technology, superior efficiency

The project is invested with cutting-edge technology, using GE’s 9HA.02 gas turbines (USA). Thanks to this, the plants achieve an efficiency of 62–64%, among the highest globally. The technology not only meets strict emission standards but also allows flexible fuel conversion—from LNG to hydrogen co-firing up to 50%, and eventually 100% hydrogen in the future. This is an important preparation step for Vietnam to move closer to its carbon neutrality goal.

On-Time Completion, Quality Assured

According to PV Power’s General Director, Mr. Le Nhu Linh, the project has fully met the stringent requirements of the EPC contract, regulations of the State Inspection Council, commitments with credit institutions, and directives of the State Steering Committee for key energy projects. The project was completed on schedule under Power Development Plan VIII, with total investment not exceeding the approved estimate, and was positively evaluated by the State Audit and the Central Inspection Commission.

This success is a testament to more than three years of persistent effort by over 3,200 engineers and workers, overcoming numerous difficulties and pressures to complete a modern power project that meets all technical, safety, and efficiency requirements.

Major contribution to local budget and development

From its inauguration, the Nhon Trach 3 & 4 LNG power plants are officially ready for commercial operation, producing about 9 billion kWh annually and contributing nearly VND 1,000 billion to the local budget. This is an important resource to promote socio-economic development in Dong Nai Province in particular and the southern region in general.

The inauguration of the Nhon Trach 3 & 4 LNG power plants is not only a significant event for Petrovietnam and PV Power but also a historic milestone for Vietnam’s energy sector. With advanced technology and superior efficiency, the project demonstrates Vietnam’s determination in energy transition, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and moving toward sustainable development. This success opens a new chapter for LNG power generation, contributing to national energy security and realizing the Net Zero target by 2050.
