Enhancing Vietnam–Finland Cooperation in Energy and Technology

On October 21st, 2025 (local time), in Helsinki, as part of the official visit of General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse to the Republic of Finland, the delegation from the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), led by Chairman of the Board Lê Mạnh Hùng, held meetings and discussions with leading Finnish enterprises. These activities aim to promote economic and trade relations between the two countries, especially in the field of technology and energy.

Petrovietnam cooperates with Valmet – Finland’s Leading Industrial Technology Group

During the visit, Petrovietnam’s Deputy General Director Phan Tử Giang led a delegation to meet with Valmet – one of Finland’s top industrial technology companies, specializing in advanced solutions in automation, energy, environment, and digital transformation.

The meeting opened promising strategic cooperation prospects between the two sides, aiming toward sustainable development and energy transition in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Petrovietnam and Valmet exchanged insights on capabilities, operational scope, and Valmet’s reference projects in Vietnam. Both parties agreed to establish a cooperation channel in key areas including:

• Process technology and automation (Valmet DNA)
• Waste-to-Energy (WtE) solutions
• Biomass energy
• Flow control technology

Beyond technical collaboration, discussions also focused on specific cooperation models such as:

• Technology and equipment supply
• Partnership as integrator and service provider
• Implementation of Performance Agreements to optimize operational efficiency
• Knowledge transfer and high-quality human resource training

Both identified opportunities to upgrade systems, digitize operations, and optimize environmental performance for Petrovietnam’s member units.

Toward Sustainable Development and Net Zero 2050

The meeting between Petrovietnam and Valmet not only demonstrated a strong commitment to technological innovation and energy transition but also contributed to realizing Vietnam’s sustainable development goals and Net Zero commitment by 2050.

Partnering with leading technology firms like Valmet will help Petrovietnam enhance its competitiveness and embrace the green industrial and circular economic trends.

Through the cooperation, Valmet reaffirms its role as a strategic technology partner, supporting Vietnam in its energy transition and sustainable development journey.
